Preparing For The Journey

In order for us to embark on a life changing, life long journey of health and vitality, there are a few things we need to put in place first. It's almost like planning for a holiday, and it will be just as much fun and just as rewarding.

To re-iterate a previous point, we must take an inventory of where we are right now. That means get a physical check up at the doctor before embarking on any type of training programme. Remember the aim is to build a healthy life, not to injure ourselves and end our journey prematurely by cutting corners.

Once we've been cleared for take off we need to ascertain what our goals are. Do I want to lose weight? Do I want to build muscle, and if so, how much muscle do I want to build? Having clear goals is very important in every area of our lives because goals give us direction and also keep us motivated when we feel like giving up.

Next we need our tracking tools: these come in the form of a training journal, as well as an eating journal and a photo album. Why the photo album? Because we want to have a point of reference. We must be able to see whether we're progressing or not right?

And the final tool we need in our arsenal is a kick butt attitude. Attitude is everything. I know this personally. There are days where I don't want to train, or eat right but then I refer back to my photos, and I read my training journal and I get my attitude in check.

Remember, this is a wonderful journey, not a race. Take the time to enjoy the changes that will take place in your body and get excited about your training time. Share your experiences with those around you. They will see the changes in you and you will be able to help them make changes in their lives. We're partners in this journey. Get your check up, pull out your journals and let that great attitude out, we're in for the ride of our lives:-)
